Prescription Painkillers: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

prescription painkillers

At some point in everyone’s life, we will experience some form of physical pain that some of us may find considerably uncomfortable. For this reason, many people go to their nearest drug store and get hold of some ibuprofen or paracetamol. Most of the time this is able to deal with whatever pain problems people have, but sometimes they have to go to the doctor to get some form of prescription painkiller, or search the internet to buy pain pills online.

Searching online for a solution can be tricky in itself.  There are many websites that set themselves up as pharmacies that are in fact completely illegal and you would be foolish to share your personal and financial details with them let alone take what ever it is they are sending you as medication.  Most states in the US for example do not allow you to buy pain pills online so licensed pharmacies will not sell them to you.  The situation in Europe is different however. You can buy pain pills online in the UK legally so long as you are sure you are dealing with a licenced website.  In fact, painkillers with no prescription is a real option there as the online clinics have licenced doctors to issue prescriptions.  I found this site: was a really useful site to have bookmarked as they have all the strong painkillers available including tramadol, codeine and co-codamol and include the doctors consultation and prescription costs as well as shipping in the cost of the pain pills.  They only deliver in the EU however.

Now let’s look at some of the painkillers available, and see why they can be both good and bad.

Pain Control

Before you start your quest to buy pain pills, the best thing you can do is explore some natural ways of dealing with your pain. Sometimes, some form of exercise like yoga can deal with pain problems caused by things such as arthritis or joint pain. Sometimes you could try and get hold of some sort of supplements that promote a healthier lifestyle. Some people can even try taking something herbal to try and deal with their pain problems, which naturally has carries considerably less risk than taking s. Some people also say that some form of meditation also is very helpful, as it can quiet the mind and train it to stop focusing on pain and allowing you to carry on with your day without having to deal with it too much.

If you were to just walk into a drug store looking for painkillers, the one that you will see more often than not is paracetamol. These are quite often taken by people who are suffering from mild or moderate pain that they think will clear up eventually after some rest and treatment. Things such as headaches caused by colds are quite often treated by paracetamol, and are usually only taken over the course of a few days. Paracetamol should never be taken as a regular form of pain relief, and if such a form of relief is needed, then a doctor should be contacted to find another method of treatment.

Tramadol is a prescription pain pill that can be very effective at dealing with moderate to severe pain. It contains properties that have also been known to deal with physiological problems such as depression and anxiety, so this could be quite a helpful drug, particularly if you are dealing with any form of mental disturbances because of the pain you are suffering from. While this painkiller can be quite effective, it does come with some side effects such as nausea and the possibility of becoming confused. If either of these symptoms start, then the best thing you can do is stop taking them right away.

Codeine is a very powerful pain pill, and should always be taken with the highest cautions. In order to become such a strong painkiller, the pill had to take on the ability to also act as a muscle relaxant, hence why this particular medicine can be extremely addictive, and can cause psychic disturbances such as confusion. It is however a very quick and effective way at dealing with severe pain, so you should double check with your doctor first to make sure that codeine is right for you before you even consider taking it.

This is a pain pill that should strictly be reserved for the most extreme of circumstances. Only when the pain has become unbearable should even consider asking for this from your doctor, or even accepting is as a method of treatment. Co-codamol essentially contains a combination of both paracetamol and codeine, making it not only addictive but highly effective at dealing with pain. It is very fast acting, and should only be taken in small doses and on rare occasions, even when the pain has become unbearable. Side effects can include confusion, short-term memory loss, and vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking them immediately.
